Kunming

Kunming, known as the "City of Spring" and boasting an average annual temperature of 15°C, enjoys mild weather and blooming flowers all year round. Even in August, the city stays cool and pleasant. With a history spanning over 3,000 years, Kunming is a melting pot of ancient Dian civilization, the academic heritage of Southwest Associated University and diverse ethnic cultures.

1. Dianchi Lake

As the largest freshwater lake in Yunnan, Dianchi Lake is hailed as the "Pearl of the Plateau" and the core ecological landmark of Kunming. A 108-kilometer lakeside greenway links wetlands, flower fields and waterfront trails. The rolling West Mountain looms in the distance like a sleeping beauty, blending seamlessly with the lake water to form a broad, soothing view. Every winter, tens of thousands of Siberian red-billed gulls migrate here, forming a unique harmonious scene between humans and wild birds.

2. Stone Forest Scenic Area

Located around one hour’s drive from downtown Kunming, the Stone Forest is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and a global model of karst landforms. Formed through 270 million years of geological evolution, the site features countless towering stone pillars that resemble a forest of rocks. Sharp stone peaks, caves and underground rivers are scattered across the area, accompanied by thousand-year-old legends of the Sani Yi ethnic group, which inspired the classic film Ashima.

3. Green Lake Park

Nestled in central Kunming, Green Lake Park is dubbed the "emerald gem in the heart of the city". Surrounded by lush greenery and evergreen lotus ponds, it offers a tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. The lake is encircled by Yunnan University and the former site of Yunnan Military Academy, a beloved leisure spot for professors and students of the historic Southwest Associated University, carrying a century-long academic legacy. The park features smooth, quiet walkways. Lotus flowers bloom in summer, while migratory gulls gather in winter. Artistic streets and characteristic cafes are within walking distance.
